Today was the day when Team 4 and 5 went to go see Dr Ben Carson. I was so excited to see him because he was so famous that he was a neurosurgery. That means he did surgery on the people’s brain and he succeed through the whole surgery.

When we got there we waited for someone to come up on stage but a song came on called the Duffy song and we started singing. Before Dr Ben Carson came on the stage this man called Henry walked on the stage instead. Then he said “hey” in a little baby voice and we started to laugh hard out. After that he shouted out “Ki Ora” and then everyone said “Ki ORA” back.

After he said “Ki Ora” he told us all these funny things. But all I wanted was to see Dr Ben Carson so much. Then Henry called up Dr Ben Carson and we all started to cheer and some people were yelling out, even me. Dr Ben Carson came on the stage and he told us about himself and his mother. Ben Carson told us to be nice to each other and told us “when you get home you can tell your mum and dad that you are so great to have a lovely mother and father that they always have your dinner ready all the time.”

He said to us “ do you know the words THINK BIG” mean, and we said “NO”. Then he told us T is for Talent, H is Honest, I is Insight, N is Nice, K is Knowledge, B is Books, I is In-depth Learning and G is God. I thought that was really nice.
After he started to speak really fast I didn’t even know what he was saying and then he stopped and he was even puffing out. He did this to show us how amazing our brain is.

Henry came back on the stage and then he told us to “stand up and sing the song” so we did. Then the Duffy song came on again while the schools were going out of the theater. I learnt all about Dr Ben Carson and I thought he was cool. All of the schools were walking towards the door, but before that we got to have an Up and Go drink and an apple each.

Pt England school walked to our buses and we went back to have lunch. I said to my friends “I HAD A GREAT DAY.”

Picnic

On a great hot day the whole school went down to Pt England reserve to have a nice picnic. When we got down there Mr Burt said “come and sit down on the grass” we got in our class lines and went and sat down. When Mr Burt stopped talking about safety rules he said “go find some where to sit and have a great day” so we walked and we found a spot in a shad by a big tree.

When we put our bags down MaryI , Elex , Jessica , Serena and I went do to the beach and dipped our feet in the water. Then we started looking for shells to take back home. When I dipped my feet in it was really cold and I started to get used to it.

I wanted to go and have morning tea but I friends didn’t want to so I stayed down there and waited for them. When we finished playing on the beach MaryI said “should we go and play softball” and we all said “YES.” I was so excited because I love playing softball and so we walked to the softball area and there were lot’s of boys playing and a little bit of girls playing so we only played a little bit but we never got a chance to bat so we went off.

Mary and I went to get a fruit it was apple and some other fruit we took 5 for our friends well they were playing cricket. Me and Mary went to them and I was at the back of the batter and the ball hit me in the face and we were laughing. I said “should we have morning tea” and Elex said “yeh let’s go.”

After eating morning tea we went back down to the beach because people were playing with clay. They made lot’s of things like hearts , fishes and some other things that I liked. So we walked down and went to the other side of the groyne. Groyne was a big as rock that was down in the beach were people were playing on. We went and got clay from this big rock and we had to put it in water so it can be soft to make something. MaryI made a heart out of it and I made something that I didn’t even know what it was I thing it was a a flat spaceship.

When I went to go have lunch with Jessica we were looking for Elex to come and have lunch with us but she was playing Softball still. After 2 hours there was karaoke there were lot’s of people that wanted to go for it but I didn’t. It started to rain then it stop Mr Burt said “go and pack you gear up then we will come back and sit on the grass” after doing that the teachers had to mark the roll.

Then we walked back to school and we all went back to out class room safely
and room 21 got to have free time and that was my class it was COOL!!!!

Netball

On a nice hot day room 21 went to play netball out on the netball court. When we got near the netball court we had to get into partners. Liz the instructor told us to go and stand on the X’s or the coloured spots. After we got on the X’s or the coloured spots Mary L handed out the balls to the people that were on the coloured spots. She gave the bibs to the people who were on the X's. Next we had to face our partners. Caroline and Waata were the ones to call out the numbers when we passed it. After doing chest passing we had to hold our arm up and our partner had to run and jump to get the ball. Liz showed us how to chest pass and jump up in the air and catch the ball. Then she said we were going to play netball and I was really excited. There were 3 squares and some people went in all 3 of the squares. When Liz told us to start we were still standing there saying girls vs boys. When the game started the boys got one goal in that was worth 50 points. After the boys got 50 points the girls had 50 points too and we were a tie. Then when the boys went to go throw the ball in the last goal they missed the goal. It went out of the line and then the ball went to the bibs team which was the girls Mary I passed the ball to Rita and then Rita got the goal in and then we WON. Then after that Liz told us to put the balls in the bag and the bibs in too. The boys were saying that they won but I said to them “no we won.” Mrs Lagitupu told us to get in the line. When we were walking to class we said “THANK YOU LIZ.”

On 6th of February 1840 The Treaty of Waitangi was signed by Maori and the British. There was lot’s of disagreement between Maori and British, the Maori people wanted to keep their land. The British wanted the Maori people to say that the British chiefs can take over.

The Maori people were really mad because the British people wanted to take over. The Maori people wanted to keep the land. About 40 people were there to sign the Treaty. There was James Busby who helped Hobson write a draft of the Treaty.

Hone Heke was a Maori chief and William Hobson was the one who set up the Treaty. Henry Williams was the missionary who translated the Treaty from England into Maori.

partnership means they work together. Protection means we take care of what is going to attack. Participation means you participate and let every one person can have a fair turn so that is the 3 Ps.
